Its dimensions (52ò74 x 110ò10 m) made this temple one of the largest in
the whole of the Greek world. In order to support the heavy Doric entablature, the architect who built the temple used engaged columns attached to a masonry wall that ran right around the inner hall instead of normal columns. Between the engaged columns
were set gigantic figures of \b \cf1 \ATXht20 telamones\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 , halfway up the wall, whose bent arms appear to be supporting the \b \cf1 \ATXht1 architrave\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 of the temple with its \b \cf1 \ATXht3 capitals\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 .
